Your bases

Day by day

  1. Day1

    Land soft in Lucerne

    Lucerne

Arrive in Zurich, train to Lucerne in under an hour. Walk the Chapel Bridge, settle the jet lag by the lake, and let the mountains come to you tomorrow.

  2. Day2

    Lake and mountain on-ramp

    Lucerne

The classic Mount Rigi 'golden round trip' by boat and cogwheel railway — your first taste of the high country before you commit to it.

  3. Day3

    Into the Jungfrau region

    Grindelwald

Scenic rail to Grindelwald. Afternoon up to First for the Cliff Walk and the Bachalpsee trail at golden hour.

  4. Day4

    Top of Europe

    Grindelwald

The Eiger Express and Jungfraujoch on a clear morning, or the Männlichen-to-Kleine-Scheidegg ridge walk if you'd rather stay on the trails.

  5. Day5

    The long scenic transfer

    Zermatt

One of the trip's best rides: down to the valley and across to car-free Zermatt. Evening apéro with your first Matterhorn view.

  6. Day6

    Matterhorn morning

    Zermatt

First Gornergrat train at sunrise, then the 5-Lakes hike for Matterhorn reflections. The day you'll remember most.

  7. Day7

    Slow exit

    Zermatt

A final mountain breakfast, then the train back toward Zurich or Geneva for your flight. Build in buffer — Swiss trains are punctual, but you won't want to rush this one.
