Bolzano vs Ortisei: Which South Tyrol Base?
South Tyrol's two faces, and only one of them is actually in the Dolomites. Bolzano, or Bozen, is the bilingual valley capital: vineyards to the edge of town, Ötzi in the museum, the region's best eating, and a train station that does the work of a hire car. Ortisei sits a thousand metres higher in Val Gardena, with cable cars leaving from the middle of the village. One is the doorway, the other is the room.
