Castelrotto
A storybook South Tyrolean village beneath the vast Alpe di Siusi.
Castelrotto (Kastelruth) is the quintessential South Tyrolean village, a cluster of pastel houses around a soaring bell tower beneath the Sciliar massif, and the gateway to the Alpe di Siusi, the largest high-alpine meadow in Europe. Trilingual, traditional, and far calmer than the Val Gardena resorts next door, it is a base for gentle meadow walks under the Dolomite peaks.
Car or train?
Plan to drive. Castelrotto and the passes, valleys, and trailheads around it are slow or impractical to reach by public transport.
