Where to stay in Mürren
Mürren is tiny and entirely car-free, so its 'areas' are really one walkable village strung along the cliff terrace; the difference is which way your room faces. The prize is a south-facing balcony looking straight at the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. The alternative is the neighbouring hamlet of Gimmelwald just below, even quieter and cheaper.

Best areas to stay in Mürren
Where to base yourself, and who each area suits best.
Mürren village
A car-free cliff-edge village of chalets and small hotels along a single lane, reached by cable car or panorama train, with the three peaks face-on and the Schilthorn lift on the doorstep.
Best for: Anyone wanting the quiet, the view, and the car-free calm of a high balcony village.
The peak-facing edge
Rooms and hotels on the south side of the village with unobstructed Eiger-Mönch-Jungfrau views and morning sun.
Best for: Couples and view-seekers; this is the room to hold out for.
Gimmelwald (just below)
A handful of farms and simple guesthouses one cable-car stop down, even smaller and quieter, with the same valley and a fraction of the cost.
Best for: Budget travelers and seclusion-seekers happy with simple, authentic stays.
What each price tier buys you
A quick sense of what to expect, and what to spend, across the range in Mürren.
Mountain hostels and simple guesthouses, more of them down in Gimmelwald, keep Mürren reachable on a budget despite the dramatic setting.
Family-run chalet hotels, many with a sauna and half-board and the all-important peak-facing balconies, are the heart of Mürren's lodging.
A small number of polished four-stars with wellness and the face-on view; this is not a five-star resort, and that is part of the charm.

Booking tips for Mürren
- A south-facing, peak-view balcony is everything here; ask for the Eiger-Mönch-Jungfrau side specifically when you book.
- You arrive without a car: park in Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg and ride the train or cable car up, so pack light.
- Mürren is small and books out in both high summer and ski season; reserve early, especially for the view rooms.
