There is no single best; there is a best for whether you prioritise the palace polish, the food, or the slope access. How much do luxury hotels in Courchevel 1850 cost?

Courchevel 1850 is the most expensive ski address in the Alps, and its palaces price accordingly: expect roughly 600 euros a night at the entry of the five-star tier and well over 1,000, often several thousand, for the palaces and their suites in the Christmas and February peak weeks. Rates swing enormously by week, and the best rooms and chalets sell out a year ahead, so treat these as starting points and book early.

Are Cheval Blanc and Les Airelles open in Courchevel?

Les Airelles' own site says 'Reopening on December 4, 2026' (checked 9 October 2026), the day Courchevel's lifts open for a season running to 18 April 2027. Cheval Blanc's site could not be reached when we checked; third-party listings give December 2026, so confirm its dates with the hotel. Neither appears on this list yet, because we only rank hotels whose slope access we could verify from the hotel itself; we will add them once we can. Note that most of the ranked hotels had not published their own winter 2026/27 dates either when we checked, so confirm dates with any of them.

What is a ski valet and a private boot room?

They are the details that separate a palace ski hotel from a merely expensive one. A private or heated boot room stores and warms your boots and skis at the piste door, and a ski valet fits you, warms the boots, carries the skis to the snow, and has everything ready and dried for the next morning. In a true ski-in ski-out palace you step from breakfast into warm boots and onto the piste without touching the street; that is what you are paying for.

When should you book a Courchevel 1850 luxury hotel?

As early as you can, ideally close to a year ahead for the Christmas, New Year, and February half-term weeks, which are the busiest and dearest in the Alps. The palaces are small, the best slope-side rooms and suites are a fraction of each, and the top chalets go first of all. It is not a value proposition and does not pretend to be; it is the top of the market, done at a level the rest of the Alps measures itself against.

Courchevel 1850 is the top of the Alpine ski market, full stop, and the reason is a rare combination: more palace hotels and Michelin stars per slope than anywhere on earth, most of them genuinely ski-in, ski-out, all plugged into Les Trois Vallées, the largest linked ski area in the world. Two of its biggest names, Cheval Blanc and Les Airelles, are not ranked here yet: Les Airelles' site gives a reopening date of 4 December 2026, Cheval Blanc's could not be reached, and we could not check either hotel's slope access from the hotel itself. The six below are the palaces we could, each one checked against the hotel's own description of its slope access rather than pulled from an old ranking; their winter dates are a separate question, and most had not published them when we looked. Every hotel in 1850 is seasonal, so "open" only means something against your own dates; check the hotel's season for your week, not for today.

One note on the reviews: at this level, guest-review counts on the booking sites are tiny, because palace guests book direct through the hotel or a travel designer. A three-review score is not a verdict on a hotel that has been the address for decades, so we lead with what these places actually are, and flag the one with a solid review base where it exists.

The highest hotel in Courchevel 1850 since it opened fifty years ago, by the hotel's own account, up the Route de l'Altiport with balconies on all 67 rooms and suites and the most literal ski-to-door access in the resort: skis on at the door, first tracks before the village is awake. It is a classic five-star rather than a gilded palace, which keeps it a notch more attainable than the flagships while beating all of them on pure slope access. What ski-in, ski-out really means in Courchevel 1850

Unlike more spread-out resorts, Courchevel 1850 is built so that most of its palaces genuinely touch the snow, which is a large part of what the address buys you. Still, there are gradations worth knowing:

Skis-on-at-the-door, at altitude. Hotel Annapurna is the highest hotel in the resort, with the snow at the threshold. L'Apogée, atop the former Olympic ski jump in the Jardin Alpin, carries you off the piste on a private conveyor belt.
Directly on a named piste. Fouquet's on the Bellecôte slope, Le Strato on the blue Cospillot piste, and Le K2 Altitude at the edge of the Pralong piste all say so themselves.
Direct access, piste unnamed. Le Chabichou states direct access to Les 3 Vallées without naming its run; ask for the exact connection when you book.

The feature that ties them together is the ski valet and heated boot room: at this level you step from breakfast into warm, dried boots and onto the piste without touching the street. Confirm the ski room, the valet, and the exact piste connection when you book, because a palace that is thirty seconds from the snow is not the same as one that opens onto it.

Courchevel's lifts run from 4 December 2026 to 18 April 2027 (courchevel.com). A seasonal hotel that is closed today is simply waiting for the snow, so judge each one against your travel week: where a hotel had not published its own dates, ask for them when you book. None of the six publishes board plans on its site either, so ask for half-board and full-board rates alongside room-only, because several of these kitchens are the reason to stay.

Booking a Courchevel 1850 palace, the right way

Book close to a year ahead for Christmas, New Year, and February. The palaces are small and the best slope-side rooms and chalets sell out first.
Confirm ski-in ski-out access and the ski valet in writing. At this price, assume nothing; get the piste connection and the boot-room service confirmed.
Weigh the half-board or full-board packages. Many of these hotels build the trip around their own celebrated kitchens; compare the board rates, not room-only.
Check the two palaces not ranked here. Les Airelles' site says "Reopening on December 4, 2026"; for Cheval Blanc, third-party listings give December 2026 but we could not reach the hotel's own site, so confirm direct. The Aman Le Mélézin sells largely direct rather than through the booking sites; plan accordingly.
